As I sit in the AA Admirals Club at Denver International Airport waiting for the first of three legs to my final destination of Denpasar, Bali (not including a quick stop in Tokyo to refuel), what comes to mind are all of the supportive send-offs I’ve received from loved ones in preparation for this journey, the most popular of which is “I hope you find what you’re looking for.” Hmmm. What am I looking for? Do I have to have an answer to that question? Can I take a pass? I’d rather liken this experience to a quote I read just yesterday which I find very fitting: “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” That’s ultimately the goal I’ve set down for myself as I wander into the vast unknown…alone. The vast unknown in which, as my friend Matt Shortell just pointed out, “the St. Regis is just a phone call away.” The finer things in life have not been lost on this man. Nor have they ever been lost on me, but while I take no small comfort in the security blanket of Western necessities like wifi, poolside martinis and their ready availability in Bali, the luxuries I’ve grown so accustomed to in my previous travels will come to an end when my business class flight touches down approximately 24 hours from now. And from there I continue creating myself.
P.S. Since much of my time with myself will be devoted to my newly rekindled love for music, I may be sharing songs of interest.
